HullKept keeps your boat’s maintenance in one place — what’s been done, what’s due, and a guided winterization run you can work through at the dock.
If something isn’t working or you can’t find a feature, email me directly: contact@salmankhakwani.com
I read every message. I’m one person, not a support desk, so I usually reply within two business days.
Before you email
It helps a great deal if you include:
- Your iPhone model and iOS version (Settings → General → About)
- What you were doing when the problem happened
- A screenshot, if the problem is something you can see
Common questions
A system shows a grey line instead of red or green. Why?
A grey line means HullKept has a service record for that system but no service interval, so it has no way to work out when the next one is due. This is deliberate: HullKept will not invent a schedule for equipment where no manufacturer figure exists — a made-up interval is worse than no interval.
Open the item and tap Set one next to “No interval”, then enter the figure from your owner’s manual (in months, engine hours, or both). The status starts tracking as soon as you save.
Where do the maintenance schedules come from?
For supported engine manufacturers, the intervals come from that maker’s published service schedule. Where no published figure exists — most freshwater, head, electrical and bilge equipment, which varies by installed part — HullKept leaves the interval blank for you to fill in from your own manual rather than guessing.
Your own intervals always override the built-in ones.
How do I back up my records?
Open Settings in HullKept and choose the backup option. HullKept writes a single .hullkept file containing that boat’s details, its full service history, and every attached photo. You name the file and choose where it goes — Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, or email.
How do I restore a backup, or move to a new iPhone?
Install HullKept on the new device, then choose Restore from backup on the welcome screen and pick your .hullkept file. Photos come back with the records.
Restoring replaces what is currently in the app, so restore onto a fresh install rather than over records you want to keep.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. HullKept has no accounts, no analytics, and no server. Everything stays on your iPhone unless you export a backup yourself. See the privacy policy for the full detail.
What does the purchase unlock?
Your first season is free — you can set up your boat and complete a full winterization run without paying. The one-time purchase unlocks unlimited runs after that. It is a single payment, not a subscription, and it covers every future update.
I paid already but the app is asking me to buy again.
This usually happens after reinstalling or moving to a new device. Open Settings in HullKept and tap Restore purchase. Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple Account that made the original purchase.
If restoring doesn’t work, email me with the date of purchase and I’ll sort it out.
Can I track more than one boat?
Yes. Each boat keeps its own equipment list, service history, and winterization progress; they never mix.
Does HullKept work without a signal?
Completely. There is no network dependency anywhere in the app, which is the point — most boatyards have poor coverage. The only thing that needs the internet is the initial purchase.
Can I use it on iPad?
HullKept is built for iPhone. It will run on an iPad in iPhone compatibility mode, but the layout is designed for a phone you can hold in one hand in an engine bay.
Where do reminders appear?
Reminders are notifications on your iPhone. They don’t appear in Apple’s Reminders app and don’t sync to your other devices. You can turn them off in HullKept’s Settings, or in iOS Settings → Notifications → HullKept.
Requests and bug reports
If HullKept is missing an engine manufacturer, a system, or a step you rely on, tell me. I’d rather hear it than guess — most of what’s in the app came from that kind of message.
