Effective date: 28th September 2026
Applies to: the HullKept app for iPhone
Developer: Salman Khakwani
The short version
HullKept does not collect your data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party software development kits in the app. Everything you enter — your boat, your service history, your photos — is stored on your iPhone and stays there unless you choose to export it yourself.
Nothing in HullKept sends your maintenance records to me or to anyone else. I have no ability to see them.
What HullKept stores, and where
HullKept keeps the following on your device only:
- Boat details you enter — name, engine type and manufacturer, engine hours, and any notes.
- Maintenance and service records — what was done, when, engine hours at the time, cost, and your own notes.
- Service intervals you set or that come from the app’s built-in manufacturer schedules.
- Photos and receipt images you attach to a service record or a winterization step.
- Winterization progress — which steps you have completed or skipped.
- App preferences, including whether reminders are switched on.
This information is held in the app’s private storage area on your iPhone. It is protected by iOS and is not readable by other apps. If iCloud Backup is switched on for your device, your iPhone’s own backup may include HullKept’s data — that backup is between you and Apple, and is governed by Apple’s privacy policy, not this one.
What HullKept does not do
- No user accounts, sign-ins, or email addresses.
- No analytics or usage measurement of any kind.
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
- No location tracking. HullKept never asks for your location.
- No third-party SDKs, trackers, or data brokers.
- No selling or sharing of personal information, because none is collected.
On the App Store, HullKept is listed as Data Not Collected. That label reflects how the app is actually built.
Camera and photo access
HullKept asks for camera access only when you choose to photograph your boat, a part, or a receipt. Choosing an existing image uses the system photo picker, which hands HullKept only the single image you select — HullKept never has access to your photo library.
Images you attach are copied into HullKept’s own private storage on your device. They are not uploaded anywhere. Deleting a service record or a boat deletes its photo files from your device as well.
Notifications
If you turn on reminders, HullKept schedules local notifications on your iPhone for upcoming or overdue maintenance. These are generated on the device by iOS. No push server is involved and no information leaves your phone. You can turn reminders off inside HullKept, or in iOS Settings, at any time.
Backups you create
HullKept lets you export your boat’s records and photos to a single .hullkept backup file, and restore from one later. You choose where that file goes — Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, email, or anywhere else iOS offers.
The backup file is not encrypted and is not password-protected. Treat it like any other document: once you place it somewhere or send it to someone, its privacy depends on where you put it. HullKept does not transmit backup files anywhere on its own.
Purchases
HullKept offers a one-time purchase to unlock unlimited use after your first season. That purchase is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store.
I never see your payment details. Apple does not give me your name, email address, or card information. HullKept only records, on your own device, whether the unlock has been purchased, so that it knows what to show you. Restoring a purchase asks Apple, not me.
Apple’s handling of your purchase is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Children
HullKept is a tool for boat owners and is not directed at children. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Your control over your data
Because everything lives on your device, you are in full control:
- To export it — use the backup option inside HullKept.
- To erase a single record or boat — delete it in the app; its photos are removed with it.
- To erase everything — use the erase option in Settings, or delete the app from your iPhone. Deleting the app removes all HullKept data from the device.
There is no server-side copy for me to delete, because there is no server.
If I contact you, or you contact me
If you email me for support, I will have whatever you choose to put in that email — your address and anything you describe or attach. I use it only to answer you, and I do not add you to any mailing list. I keep support correspondence no longer than I need it to resolve the issue.
Changes to this policy
If HullKept ever changes in a way that affects this policy, I will update this page and change the effective date at the top. If a future version were ever to collect data — which is not the plan — that change would be described here and in the App Store privacy label before it shipped.
